Helmet

Bicycle helmets exist since about 25 years only and are therefore NOT historically correct (with the exception of non homologated historic racing helmets as on the picture). Modern helmets FIRMLY DISTURB vintage appearance.

However, there is no doubt that riding protected by a modern and homologated helmet increases safety. Therefore it is to personal preference of every participant to go for safety or style. So there is NO BAN but also NO OBLIGATION for helmets. You might probably find modern helmets with vintage look.

Racing jersey

A road or racing bicycle is ridden wearing a matching jersey. Up to the early 1980ies these have been made from wool only, later (category 5) first funny synthetic jerseys appeared. Jerseys are matched by black cycling shorts, short white socks and lace-up shoes (for category 5 you might wear early velcro shoes ... in neon colors ;-)) PLEASE DO NOT wear jogging or trekking shoes on a road bike!

Knickerbockers

Are very nice on very old bikes (up to the 1930ies | categories 1 and 2). PLEASE DO NOT COPY the clowns who wear knickerbockers on 1980ies road bikes in other events!

Hippie-Style

On a folding bike or a cruiser decorated with flowers ... if you also have a matching camping car, wow ... ;-)

Rock'n'Roll

You ride a ladies-, touring or sports bike from the 50ies or 60ies? Denim-Look, leather jackets and  colored suits have been very cool in these days. Do it like Elvis.

Uniform

You have been a cyclist in the army? Bring your bike and wear your uniform from the old days. There is even a strong military cycle racing tradition in Switzerland (fully packed). Postal-Service- or Fire-Brigade-uniforms worn on matching bikes are fine for BERGKÖNIG too.
